About

I first registered this domain name in July of 1997, long before there was a political slur of the same name pointed at the right wing.  The name itself is a reference to my mania for anything man made with wings, but it works on other levels as well.  In retrospect, it’s not really all that original, but I like it, and I’m keeping it.

I’ve been using the winged acorn insignia at the top of the page in various forms for about 6 years.  Again, a ‘nut’ with wings on it isn’t exactly original, but this one’s mine, and I’m keeping it.  The original was based on a set of  U.S. Army Air Corps pilot wings, and I got the original inspiration for a personal insignia from Roscoe Turner. Wingnut 2.0, which I’ve been using for about 3 years, was inspired by the Aston Martin logo, albeit mine is far more art moderne.

2003 through 2006 saw a period of manually updated ‘blogging'(I hate that frickin’ term – it’s a journal, folks, always has been, always will be, no matter what pseudo-hip name you hang on it) shortly before blogging became the fresh, hip, new thing to do.  I’ve always said there’s nothing you can do with one of these social networks that I can’t do with my website, and for the most part, it’s true…I just have to get up off my rear end and work at it!

The overall design of the site is a  graphically modified stock WordPress theme, the majority of the layout is new from scratch in Photoshop CS3 after a fevered night of trial and error.  That’s usually how it works with me.

So, here I am, shiny new WordPress install,  a Gallery in the works (wait’ll I tie the two together, it’s gonna be disastrous great!), and a huge load of junk to throw at it, namely tons of photos and other related crap spanning the past 10 years or so.  True to form, there’s no way I can keep it light, so you’re getting the whole thing…just slowly, on an ‘as I feel like it’ basis.

I might turn to political commentary(just to head everyone off, I am not the closet leftist writing for Salon under the same pseudonym), or just use it as a narcissistic sounding board like so many other corners of the web.  We’ll see.  In the mean time, entertain yourself with snippets of my mostly obscure existence and I’ll try to cook up something vaguely worthwhile to keep everyone interested.

Cheers and jeers!
